One of our stops was\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666666;\"><a title=\"Mj\u00f6lk\" href=\"http:\/\/store.mjolk.ca\/index.php?ishome=1\" target=\"_blank\">Mj\u00f6lk<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 a Scando-Japanese design store that sells lots of beautiful stuff you probably don&#8217;t need for a price you probably can&#8217;t afford.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The store riled me up in a strange way. There was something about seeing a simple\u00a0<a title=\"Bamboo strainer\" href=\"http:\/\/store.mjolk.ca\/index.php?product=30266&amp;shop=1&amp;search=bamboo+strainer\" target=\"_blank\">bamboo strainer<\/a>\u00a0priced at $120 that would set any sane person off. But I calmed down when I saw this\u00a0Hudsalve lip balm. The\u00a0minimalist retro Scandinavian design and the backstory (it was developed for the Swedish Army in the 1950s) drew me to it. And since it was only $12 (a relative statement) I decided to grab one.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve done a bit more reading up on the product&#8217;s story, and it seems to get more interesting and more interesting. <a title=\"Swiss Miss\" href=\"http:\/\/www.swiss-miss.com\/2006\/04\/hudsalva_swedis.html\" target=\"_blank\">Swiss Miss<\/a> explains that the product was originally designed to prevent blisters on soldiers feet, but could also be used as a candle, a bike chain lubricant and a foodstuff. Seriously. The Swedish military suggest\u00a0it can be fried and eaten if you&#8217;re starving in a snowy\u00a0field somewhere.<\/p>\n<p>I hope it doesn&#8217;t come to that, but I&#8217;m happy with the purchase.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last\u00a0Saturday Isabel and I made the trek to the Junction.
