Or at least when you talk to the kind of people I do.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Skip Voodoo Doughnut. It&#8217;s for tourists. The real winner is Blue Star.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Be it through word of mouth or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seriouseats.com\/2014\/08\/behind-the-scenes-portland-oregon-best-doughnuts-blue-star-donuts.html\" target=\"_blank\">word of mouse<\/a>,\u00a0the general consensus is\u00a0nothing but praise for <a title=\"Blue Star Donuts\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bluestardonuts.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Blue Star Donuts<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; the trendy shop (of course it&#8217;s trendy, it&#8217;s in PDX) \u00a0slinging inventive and delicious donuts. So naturally, it was Isabel and I&#8217;s first stop when we rolled into the city. And it did not disappoint.<\/p>\n<p>I typically favour a cake-type donut (with a sour cream old fashioned being my absolute favourite) but Blue Star&#8217;s brioche-based dough gave even the <a title=\"Doughnut Vault Chicago\" href=\"http:\/\/thedoughnutvault.tumblr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">best donuts I&#8217;ve ever had<\/a>\u00a0a run for their money. Between the two of us we sampled three delicious varieties, but the undisputed champion was the lemon poppyseed. Paired with <a title=\"Stumptown Coffee Roasters\" href=\"http:\/\/stumptowncoffee.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Portland&#8217;s finest brew<\/a>\u00a0and what you&#8217;re left with is a breakfast fit for a big ol&#8217; fat king.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When telling people that you&#8217;re headed to Portland, the word &#8220;donuts&#8221; is generally said within a few sentences of their response.
